How it works

Genuinely four clicks — not "four clicks" in the marketing sense that turns out to be twelve.

  1. 1

    Open WhatsApp Web

Log into web.whatsapp.com like you normally would.

  2. 2

    Click the extension icon

Group Contacts Exporter opens right from your Chrome toolbar.

  3. 3

    Pick a group

Search and select any group — or tick "all groups" to export everything at once.

  4. 4

    Extract, then download

Click Extract and get a clean CSV that opens straight in Excel or Google Sheets.

What you get

Not a raw dump of chat data — an actual usable spreadsheet.

Doesn't choke on big groups

A 900-member group loads and exports the same way a 9-member one does. No manual scrolling to force WhatsApp to load stragglers.

A CSV you'd actually send someone

Name, country code, and number in their own columns — not one messy field you have to split yourself before it's usable.

Owner, Admin, Member — labeled

Every row shows the person's role in the group, so you're not guessing who's actually running it.

No need to open the group first

Search for it by name from the extension popup and export directly — skip the click-in, scroll-down, click-members routine.

Every group, one file

Tick "all groups" once and get a single combined export instead of repeating the process group by group.

Your call on former members

Leave them in if you want a full history, or leave them out for a clean current-roster export. Either way, it's a checkbox, not a workaround.

Your contacts never leave your device

A tool that pulls phone numbers out of a group chat should make you a little suspicious — good. Here's the entire data path: extraction runs locally in your browser, the CSV writes straight to your downloads folder, and that's it. No server in between, nothing to intercept.

  • No sign-up or account required
  • No data sold to third parties
  • Local, on-device processing only
  • Never sends messages or adds contacts

Frequently asked questions

Is Group Contacts Exporter free to use?

Yes — install and export with no sign-up and no card required today. Pricing may evolve as we add more advanced features, but the basic export flow is free to use right now.

Does it work with large WhatsApp groups?

Yes — it handles groups with hundreds or even thousands of members.

Will every member have a phone number in the export?

WhatsApp doesn't show a phone number for every member. Those members export with their name and a blank number, and the extension tells you exactly how many after each export — so you're never guessing.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Extraction happens entirely inside your browser. Nothing about your contacts is uploaded, stored, or sold.

Can the extension send messages or add contacts?

No. It only reads groups you're already in. It never sends messages, adds contacts, or automates anything.

Is this affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta?

No. Group Contacts Exporter is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to WhatsApp LLC, Meta Platforms Inc., or any Meta product. WhatsApp™ is a trademark of WhatsApp LLC, referenced here solely to describe compatibility.

Do I need to use the browser console or paste any code?

No. A lot of the "free" guides for this floating around involve opening DevTools and pasting a JavaScript snippet into the console — that's not what this is. Install the extension, click the icon, click Extract. No code, no console.

Is there a limit on how many contacts I can export for free?

No hidden cap. Some tools in this space show you the first 10 contacts free and hide the rest until you pay — this exports the whole group, every time.

Can I export just admins, or exclude admins from the file?

Not as a separate filter yet — every row includes a Role column (Owner, Admin, or Member), so you can sort or filter it in Excel or Sheets after export in a few seconds.

Does this work with WhatsApp Communities?

A Community is really just several groups grouped under one umbrella — you can export any of those individual groups the same way, or tick "export all groups" to pull every group you're in, community sub-groups included, into one file.

What format does the export come in — Excel or CSV?

CSV, which opens directly in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers with no import step. If your CRM or spreadsheet tool accepts CSV (nearly all do), you're good to go.

Still have a question, a bug, or a feature you want?

This is a small, actively-maintained project — a real person reads what you send here. No ticket system, no bot reply.

Stop copy-pasting numbers out of a group chat by hand

Install it, pick a group, and see your first export in under a minute.
