Most questions here are about output that looks wrong and is not. Those are answered first.

Getting help

The fastest route is the feedback form inside the extension — open the extension and click Feedback. It reaches the same place as email and it lets you include a message describing what happened.

You can also email saurav.chaudhary70@gmail.com directly. This is a solo project, so replies are written by a person and usually take a day or two.

When reporting a problem, the useful details are: roughly how many members the group has, whether it is an ordinary group or part of a WhatsApp Community, how many rows your file came back with, and what you expected instead. That is normally enough to identify it without any access to your data.

Output that looks wrong but is not

Fewer rows than the group's member count

The count in the group header is a cached number, not a live count of members, and it drifts. On the 25 largest groups of a real test account, 10 disagreed with the actual roster — one by six members. A gap of one or two is almost always that counter.

To verify properly, scroll the participant list to the bottom and check the last few names against the end of your file. Full explanation.

Rows with a name but no phone number

WhatsApp does not store a number for every member. In an ordinary group this is rare — every plain group we measured exported at 100%, at sizes up to 883 members.

In a WhatsApp Community sub-group it is normal and cannot be fixed by any tool. WhatsApp withholds member numbers there by design and never sends them to your browser. Measured yields in those groups ranged from 2% to 38%. More detail.

A blank Name column

That member is not in your address book and has not set a public display name. We leave the cell blank on purpose rather than writing a placeholder — a blank sorts, filters and deduplicates cleanly, and a placeholder does not. Why.

Phone numbers mangled in Excel or Google Sheets

The spreadsheet converted the column to numbers on import. That strips the leading +, removes leading zeros, and can push long numbers into scientific notation. Import the file with the phone column set to Text rather than double-clicking it. Step-by-step fix.

Things that are actually broken

"Could not read that group"

Reload web.whatsapp.com, wait until your chat list has fully loaded, then open the extension again. The extension reads WhatsApp's own local data, which is not available until the page has finished syncing — this is the most common cause by a wide margin.

The group list is empty or missing groups

Same cause, same fix. If it persists after a full reload, sign out of WhatsApp Web and sign back in, which forces a fresh sync.

Nothing happens when you click Extract

Check that you are on web.whatsapp.com and not the WhatsApp desktop app. The extension only works on WhatsApp Web in Chrome or another Chromium browser.

Common questions

Is there an export limit?

No. No monthly cap, no profile quota, no paid tier. Exports are unlimited and free.

Do I need to be a group admin?

No. Ordinary membership is enough in a normal group. Details.

Does my data go anywhere?

No. Extraction and file generation happen entirely in your browser. The only thing that ever leaves is a feedback message you choose to type. Privacy policy.

Can it send messages or add contacts?

No. It is read-only and has no automation of any kind.
